Ambien is known to be a sedative prescription medicine for short-term treatment for adults having trouble sleeping or suffer from insomnia. People who use Ambien for more than a short period of time can lead to a dependence, this occurs when a person reaches for this drug every night and may no longer be able to have a decent sleep without it.

One thing that is not talked about much is even when Ambien is taken as prescribed, it can become a form of a habit leading to Ambien abuse or addiction. Once someone is dependent on the drug, attempting to stop ‘cold turkey’ can result in severe Ambien withdrawal.

Signs of Ambien Addiction

  • Cognitive issues
  • Memory problems
  • Unable to stop taking the drug
  • Taking the drug during the day
  • Grogginess and feeling drowsy the next day
  • Taking much higher doses than prescribed
  • Abusing the drug by drinking alcohol with it or snorting the drug
  • Feelings of anxiety
  • Withdrawal symptoms once the drug wears off

How to Get Help For Ambien Addiction

To manage Ambien withdrawal symptoms, its best to manage safely with a detox plan that will involve slowly cutting back from the drug. Rehab ought to be started after the detox process. Rehab programs are available in different settings in a outpatient or a residential environment. Common treatments involving a multi-prolonged approach include:

  • Talk therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Psychosocial Skills
  • 12-step groups
  • Recreational therapy

Breaking free from an Ambien dependency is possible. Much of the success will rely on finding new methods to get a greater restful night’s sleep.
